Add Metric Notes to Power BI Reports Pt2 – Using Power Automate to Refresh Scorecard Dataset

This is the second part of a case study on using Power BI Scorecard Metric Check-In notes to add narratives to data points in a Power BI visual.

In the first video (link below) I explained that each Metric Scorecard has its own dataset. However, after updating a metric check-in the dataset doesn't refresh automatically. The result of this is that you'd need to set up a scheduled refresh to pull the newly entered check-in notes through into the PBIX report.

In this video, I cover a solution to this issue. There is a Power Automate trigger that is activated whenever a new check-in note is added to a Power BI Metric. There is also a Power Automate action that can trigger a data set refresh. These are exactly what we need to automate the whole process. Allow you to enter notes against a metric and see them in your power bi report (almost) instantly.

I'll take you through the steps I've taken to create the Power Automate Flow.
